Asking Tough Questions

As we begin a new year, tragedies from the old year have left many of us asking honest questions that test our faith. Tough Questions, a new subject in our Sermon Library, has been created to help you in answering them from a biblical perspective.

Here are some questions addressed:

"Why Do Bad Things Happen to Us?" > >
"Why Does God Allow Injustice?" > >
"Why Is It So Hard to Forgive My Brother?" > >

IFL Blog: Why is Christmas on December 25?

Nativity scene: Mary and baby Jesus

Because the early church established Christmas Day around the time of the Winter Solstice, it's understandable why some concerned, Bible-believing Christians reject many Christmas traditions. But there's no need to. Read about and comment on the evangelistic reasons for celebrating Christ's birth on December 25 at our brand new blog, powered by GodTube.

The Meaning of the Star of Bethlehem

Pastor Okubo, who is also a physicist, weaves ancient astronomy, modern science, Old Testament prophecy and the historical backdrop of the birth of Christ to explain what the Wise Men may have seen over Bethlehem that silent night, and how science once again bears witness to the reliability of the Bible.

It's Like, You Know, I'm All...

Since Mary was most likely a teenager when the angel Gabriel announced she would be the mother of Jesus, how would she have shared this with her teenage friends? Like, you really wanna know?

Welcome from Our Pastor

Pastor Mason OkuboI wish to welcome everyone who is visiting our website. We are very proud of it and of the ministry it represents. Immanuel First Lutheran Church and School has shared God's love, comfort and hope to the people of West Covina and the surrounding community for over 50 years.

A diverse group of people call Immanuel First their home. Life can be filled with ups and downs which make us feel isolated and alone. But as the body of Christ, the things which bind us together are so much stronger. We are a people of the One! (Eph 4:4)

One Body and One Spirit which unites us.
One Hope which calls us.
One Lord, Jesus Christ, one faith, one baptism.

In so many words, we are a family with God as Father over all. Like a family, we laugh, we cry, we sing, we worship together... but the key word is "together."

If you are looking for a place to belong, we invite you to join our family. Come worship with us on Sunday. Looking for a school? We are the IFL Lions! Come join our pride! (pre-K to 8th)

I look forward to meeting you.

God's blessings!
Pastor Mason Okubo
